Share File vs. FTP
Ease of Use and Management
Unlike FTP, Share File can be accessed using any web browser and does not require the opening of additional ports or the installation of special software to use it. FTP traffic travels over port 21, a special port that is often closed by firewalls at large corporations for security reasons.

What is FTP?
FTP or File Transfer Protocol is a specification for transferring files on the internet. From a technical perspective, FTP exists at a fairly deep layer on the internet, similar to HTTP (you are probably familiar with HTTP because that is the protocol for web pages, which is why you type http:// when visiting a web site).
FTP was developed a long time ago in the early days of the internet. Because long ago it was the only viable way to transfer files electronically, many companies established FTP as their mechanism for making files available to clients, partners, and colleagues and continue to use FTP to this day.
Unfortunately, back when FTP was first created, its authors did not anticipate many of the developments in internet commerce and publishing that have occurred over the past 10 years and FTP now suffers from some critical problems.
- FTP transfers files and passwords in clear text for anyone to see. This can be a major security hole, especially for companies in businesses such as healthcare, law, accounting, or any industry where data privacy is important.

Will my clients be able to see folders that I've made for other clients?
No. Your clients will only see folders that you have explicitly given them access to. Your company also has the option of preventing clients from seeing other users who have access to the same folder that they do.
How is Share File different than FTP?

Is there a file size limit on uploading or sending files?
Files up to 2GB in size may be uploaded, sent, or stored on Share File. Billing is based bandwidth, which is the amount of upload and download activity per month, as well as total file storage.
How does Share File send large files through e-mail?
Instead of attaching the file to your e-mail, you upload it to Share File's secure servers. Share File will then provide you with a hyperlink that you can send to recipients, either through Share File or using your own e-mail software. Recipients will be able to download the file by clicking the hyperlink.
Is Share File secure?
Yes. Unlike e-mail and FTP, Share File offers 128-bit SSL encryption to protect your files. Passwords are also hashed so that not even Share File support staff is able to access them. All files on Share File are backed up daily and hosted with best-of-breed servers and facilities.
